Ravenshoe/Mt Garnet Prize Meeting - 1 October 2017

Twenty-four shooters from Mossman to Bowen and the Tablelands gathered in Ravenshoe for the Club Annual Prize Meeting. The shoot was competed over three ranges: 500yds and double 600yds. The day started with light winds at the 500yds, but things got more challenging at 600yds with heavy mirage settling in due the sunny and hot conditions. Congratulations to the winners: TR1 – M. Beecham (Mareeba) 148.10; TR2 – S. Durham (Mareeba) 144.9; FS1 - J. Blomfield (Bowen) 172.10 after a shoot off with M. Wilson (Ravenshoe); FS2 – R. Harvey (Cairns) 173.10; T. Results of double 600yds on a sunny Sunday morning with distorting mirage and changeable winds.

Target Rifle – Steve Durham  97.7.  F-Standard – Murray Wilson 113.5, Mick Wood 112.5, Liz Wilson 109.2. FTR – John Anderson 105.2.

Congratulations to our F-Open and F/TR teams who competed in the World F Class Championships in Ottowa, Canada this month.  The Australian F-Open Team took out the overall lead in the teams event. Cairns shooter Stephen Lazarus was the mastermind coach behind this amazing victory and the team included Cairns shooters Peter Carter and Marty Lobert and former Cairns resident Rod Davies.  Rod also won the individual F-Open shoot taking the Gold Medal, while Peter came 8^th with a Bronze Medal. 

Our very own Ravenshoe shooters, Betta Gianasi and Chris Allman shot in the F/TR team.  Betta came a very creditable 32^nd and Chris 67^th out of over 200 shooters in the individual shoot.  Chris coached our second Australian F/TR team to 8^th place.  Our first F/TR team took out second place.  Congratulations to all coaches, shooters and back-up crew on a magnificent effort.

Next weekend’s shoot at Ravenshoe will be at 300yards.
